2014 FOOTBALL COMPETITION RULES:

Official Rules
This football competition will start with the first regular season NFL game of 2014 and end with the Superbowl.  All money raised will be donated to the Melinda Doolittle Music Scholarship at Belmont University.

Eligibility for Prizes

A $25 contribution to the Melinda Doolittle Music Scholarship at Belmont University makes you eligible for prizes. Detailed instructions on where to send your contribution can be found here:  http://www.melindasbackups.com/forum/index.php/topic,8525.0.html

Prizes will be awarded to the following:

1)  Winner of the football contest (i.e., the contributing participant with the highest total score at the conclusion of the Superbowl) - wins a Skype video call with Melinda including private concert of song of his/her choice (from list of select songs) (20 mins)

2)  Winner of the random drawing (i.e., the contributing participant, except the football contest winner, drawn randomly) wins a Skype video call with Melinda (10 mins)

Anyone who contributes at least $25 to the music scholarship from now until Nov 1st will be eligible for the random drawing and can choose to participate in the football contest or not.  Either way, s/he will still be eligible for the random drawing unless s/he wins the football contest.  In this case, s/he wins only the prize for the football contest.   The winner of the random drawing will be selected from the remaining contributing participants.

A list will be compiled of the names of everyone who contributes $25 or more (one entry per name no matter the amount donated) and that list will be posted on the forum.  The winner will be drawn randomly by Melinda or her designee.  All donations must be received by Nov 1st.
If you cannot afford the $25, you are still welcome to participate in the football contest, although you will not be eligible for prizes.

Scoring Rules:

1)  Playing for Regular Season Games

During the regular season, you will pick the winning team in each game.

For each week, there will be 4 games that will be designated as underdog games with the underdog team identified.

Each underdog game will have designated points if the underdog wins.  The underdog points can vary by game.  (Last year, the underdog points = 2 points.)

The scoring will be as follows:

a)  Underdog Games
   - Pick the underdog team and the team wins, you score +(designated underdog points for the game)
   - Pick the underdog team and the team loses, you score 0 points
   - Pick the favorite team and the team wins, you score +1 point
   - Pick the favorite team and the team loses, you score 0 points

b)  Non-Underdog Games
   - Pick a team and the team wins, you score +1 point
   - Pick a team and the team loses, you score 0 points

Each week, there will also be one bonus question.  If you answer the bonus question correctly, you will score the designated number of points indicated in the bonus question.

2)  Picking the Playoff Teams

You will also pick the teams you think will make it to the playoffs by Oct 5th (deadline will be 5 mins before the first game is played on Oct 5).  These picks include the wildcards.  Each correct pick will be worth 2 points   for a possible total of 24 extra points.

3)  Playing  for Post-Season Games

There will be no underdog games in the Post-Season.  During post-season (playoffs), in addition to picking the winning teams, you will also be provided with a possible total game score (total of what both teams in the game will score) and asked to pick whether the actual total game score will be over or under the number given.  The projected total game score will always have .5 tacked on.  So if the total points given is 44.5, you will have to predict whether the actual total score will be over 44.5 pts or under 44.5 pts.

Post-season scoring will be as follows:

There are 4 sets of picks that each participant will have to make as the playoffs advance.

a)  Guess the winning teams during the Wild Card Round.  8 teams (not counting the teams with byes) means 4 games with 4 winners.
   - Guess winning team, you score +4 points
   - Guess over/under of each game, you score +4 points
Maximum score of 32 points in the Wild Card Round.

b) Guess the four winning teams from the Divisional Round.
   - Guess winning team, you score +4 points
   - Guess over/under of each game, you score +4 points
Maximum score of 32 points in the Divisional Round.

c) Guess the AFC and NFC conference winners (ie, who makes it to the Superbowl).
   - Guess winning team, you score +6 points
   - Guess over/under of each Championship game, you score +6 points
Maximum score of 24 points in the Conference Round.

d) Guess the Superbowl winner.
   - Guess the Superbowl winner, you score +8 points
   - Guess over/under of the Superbowl game, you score +8 points
Maximum score of 16 points for the Superbowl picks.
