Melinda Doolittle

2007 "American Idol" finalist

"For me, Aretha is soul music. For my record ['Coming Back to You'], I recorded one of her songs, 'Wonderful.' It's my favorite song on the record. There's just something about the groove and the feel and the way the chorus keeps saying 'I-I-I think you're wonderful.' That's for-real love. I was a little girl when I first heard 'Respect.' The sassy nature of that song, where you're kind of getting in someone's face with it, stuck with me. Then she could sing a song like 'Natural Woman' and pull on your heartstrings. I love the range of what she can do. I can't remember a time when I didn't think Aretha was amazing."
