I was asked how to download the new videos I am posting for playing on ipod.

Firstly, its not clear if this format plays this format does not play on an ipod.

So

Answer.

There is still a directory with ipod formated video - where all the key
videos are formatted specifically for the ipod nano.

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/video/ipod-nano/

If you go to the above URL you will see a list of files.  Right click on the file you want to download and select "Save Link As"or "Save Target As" (dependant on browser) and save it to your hard drive.

Downloading them anyway for playing on a PC whilst away from the network

If you look at the code of the video (hit the quote button on the post).
You will see somthing like

*there are some legacy tags like this

Were ext is one of .mp4, .mp3 or .flv for single play files, and .xml for a playlist

You can down load the single file by pre-pending

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/video/  for .mp4 and .flv files

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/mp3/ for .mp3 files

and http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/ for .xml files

so you would try and download

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/video/xxx/yyy.mp4

The easiest way to do this is actually to put the first line (http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/video/ ) in your browser, and then navigate from the list you see on the screen until you see the file you want listed.  Then right click on it and download.

The playlists can be in a variety of standardised formats, and it is not for me to tell you how to decode them,  But if you look at them in a text editor (wordpad on Windows) it will be pretty obvious where the actual media files that make up the playlist are being retrieved from.

Edit - 27th October 2008 - The original files will be deleted as these new ones become available.  Sometimes they will also be renamed to simplify the structure. For instance, the complete American Idol Season 6 program which contains Melinda's Audition is now stored as

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/video/American.Idol.S06/E03.mp4

I will shortly be doing a similar thing with the audio tracks.  I this case each audio track will be formated

The format below will work for audio files, but it will not be the standard method.

[audio]aaa/bbb.mp3[/audio]

and the pre-pended url will be

http://www.melindasbackups.com/media_store/mp3/
